Error description

  • When JCL is run to execute the PGM=CACCATUT, referenced in the
sample JCL CACPOST, and the parameter REGION=0M is included in
the jobcard, the following values are displayed in the joblog:
    IEF374I STEP/CACCATIN/STOP 2007317.1411 CPU 0MIN 02.35SEC
    SRB 0MIN 00.25SEC VIRT 128K SYS 308K EXT 1885572K SYS
    11844K
Note the EXT value is 1885572K
    .
If no REGION value is included in the jobcard, the default usage
    will display as:
    IEF374I STEP/CACCATIN/STOP 2007323.0942 CPU 0MIN 00.69SEC
    SRB 0MIN 00.18 VIRT 128K SYS 368K EXT 32720K SYS
     10348K
Where EXT is a much lower value of 32720K
    .
If a REGION parameter is used, we recommend that a value other
than 0M is specified. A value of 0M grants the job access to
all available storage, dependent on any site specific limits
set. For additional information on the JOB REGION parameter,
refer to the MVS JCL Reference manual. In addition, a REGION
parameter has been added to the CACPOST SAMPLE JCL in the
EXEC DD statement. The updated sample can be obtained from
    APAR PK59020.

Local fix

  • If a REGION parameter must be specified in the JCL jobcard,
please specify a value other than 0M. See MVS JCL Reference for
additional considerations regarding the JOB REGION parameter.
Obtain fix for APAR PK59020 where CACPOST sample is updated
with a REGION value on the EXEC statement. Note that a
REGION parameter in the JOBCARD will override a REGION
    value on the EXEC statement.

Problem summary

  • Use of REGION=0M in JCL jobcard grants the job
full access to available storage in address space.

Problem conclusion

Temporary fix
