Error description

  • When very many threads compete for resources of DB2 subsystems
    being monitored by Omegamon Server, an excessive number of
    IFCID150 records may be created refering to resources holding or
    waiting for locks. As a consequence, these records may overflow
    the DB2 IFI READS internal buffer being used by Omegamon Server
    to hold current snapshots coming from the DB2 subsystems. This
    may prevent gathering of whole snapshot data in the 4MB size
    limited buffer.

    The issue specified in the "Problem description" field may cause
    appearance of the "Return area is too small" indicator when
    Performance Expert client user is being performing functions
    requesting thread details to be present in the DB2 snapshots.

Problem conclusion

  • The solution given allows to eliminate duplicate IFCIDs 150
    coming with DB2 snapshots and littering the DB2 IFI READS
    Return Area. The filtering process takes place when:

    1.Threads in locking conflicts are being collected by
      History Manager (the SNAPSHOTHISTORY and SHTHREADLOCK
      startup parameters of Omegamon Server started task
      procedure are set to "Y")

    or/and:

    2.Omegamon Server is running and users of Performance
      Expert Client or ISPF Monitoring dialogs are performing
      one of the following functions:
    - Thread Summary when at least one condition of the
      INCLUDE / EXCLUDE filter is set;
    - Thread Details;
    - Thread in Locking Conflicts;
    - Locking Conflicts

    KEYWORDS : RETURN AREA IS TOO SMALL IFCID 150
