Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All WebSphere Application Sever plug-in *
    * users running Apache or IHS Web Server. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: WebSphere Application Server Plug-in *
    * log file handle leak occurs when Apache *
    *                      is recycled in  graceful/restart mode   *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Re-starting Apache in graceful/restart mode
    (apachectl -graceful or apachectl -restart) causes a file handle
    leak. The file descriptors to http_plugin.log increases by 1
    for every graceful restart.

Problem conclusion

  • WebSphere Application Server Plug-in is now enhanced to close
    the existing http_plugin.log when apache is recycled. This
    prevents a file handle leak.

    Fix will be released in WebSphere Application Server fixpacks
    5.1.1.14, 6.0.2.19 and 6.1.0.7.
