Error description
When Installing WebSphere Application Server zOS, which involves apply/accepting of many PTF's (like getting to latest service level from a very old service level), you could sometimes run into space issues in the TARGET, DISTRIBUTION, or HFS libraries. This could also happen when you're accepting the PTF'S in chunks. the error for e.g, out-off-space error for the ABBOZAR dataset : IEC032I E37-04,IFG0554P,U34858W7,STEP1,ABBOZAR,AD8C, INC113,U6.SYS1.IBM.WAS.V601.ABBOZAR
Local fix
This could be resolved by adding the COMPRESS(ALL) in the BBOACCEP, BBOAPPLY jobs
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of WebSphere Application Server * * V6.0.1 for z/OS * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When applying and accepting WebSphere * * Application Server V6.0.1 for z/OS * * PTFs. ABEND037/ABENDS037 errors can be * * encountered because the datasets are * * not compressed. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When applying maintenance to the system ABENDS037 (dataset out of space) messages can occur because the compress option is not used. If you add COMPRESS(ALL) to the apply and accept jobs then the space issues are resolved. The BBOAPPLY and BBOACCEP jobs have been modified to include this code.
Problem conclusion
When applying and accepting PTFs to the system ABENDS037 (lack of space) can cause problems if the datasets are not compressed. Adding COMPRESS(ALL) to the apply and accept jobs will correct this issue. APAR PK33386 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service Level (Fix Pack) 6.0.2.19 of WebSphere Application Server V6.0.1 for z/OS.
