PK22907: ABENDS23E-8 OCCURS WHEN DETACHING A TCB THAT HAS ALREADY TERMINATED. AT THE TIME DETACH IS ISSUED THE TCB IS STILL ATTACH

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• The S23E-8 ABEND is caused when DETACHing a TCB that has already
  terminated. At the time DETACH is issued the TCB is still
  ATTACHed.
  
  The KO2ACONB recovery routine frees all resources (eg. ECSA)
  and issues DETACH to terminate the CAF/RRSAF connection. As the
  DETACH supervisor call is being processed the CCAF/RRSAF TCB
  terminates causing the S23E-8 ABEND. In this case, the recovery
  routine should not produce an SVC dump for a DETACH type ABEND.
  The KO2ACONB recovery routine will be changed to bypass SVC dump
  processing for any DETACH-related type ABENDs.

  ACON issues DETACH and at the same time on another processor
  CCAF is
  terminating. There are no z/OS synchronization services to
  prevent this
  from taking place. This is a harmless ABEND condition that is to
  be
  expected during termination of an attached subtask.
