Problem summary

  * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL V6.2 compiling     *
  *                 programs at OPT(1|2) that move an            *
  *                 alphanumeric or group data item A to         *
  *                 another data item B, change the value of A,  *
  *                 and use B in a subsequent statement as a     *
  *                 sender.                                      *
  ****************************************************************
  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The subsequent statement may use an     *
  *                      incorrect value for B.                  *
  ****************************************************************
  * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF.                      *
  ****************************************************************
  When moving from A to B and then using B in a subsequent
  statement, the optimizer will often be able to use A rather
  than B, producing the same result without converting B to some
  other data type. This often gives a performance increase.
  However, this can only be done when either A is unchanged
  before B is used as a sender, or if the old value of A is used.
  If A is changed by an intermediate statement, it is incorrect
  to use the new value of A in place of B.
  

Problem conclusion

• The compiler was fixed to either use the old value of A or to
  load B when B was used in a subsequent statement.
