PI98139: CICS 5.4 DFHLEPTD ISSUES ESTAEX FOR S8 TCBS PASSING 64 BIT ADDRESS CAUSING PROGRAM CHECK IN IEAVSTA1

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• You are running CICS Transaction Server 5.4 and notice
  ABENDS0C4's occurring in your CICS region that do not
  get externalized.  No error messages issued.
  A SLIP dump on the 0C4 showed CICS attaching an S8
  TCB, and module DFHLEPTD issuing an ESTAEX macro, to
  establish the DFHKESTX ESTAE.
  This caused a program check in:
  IEANUC01.IEAVSTA1+0246 IN READ ONLY NUCLEUS
  The failing instruction is:
      MVCK    X'0'(R5,R10),X'0'(R1),R4
  due to R1 not being addressable.
  CICS passed a 64 bit address in R1, and the z/OS
  service can only handle a 31-bit addresss for the
  parameters.
  The end result is the DFHKESTX ESTAE is not
  established on the S8 TCB.
  
  Additional Symptom(s) Search Keyword(s): KIXREVSWM
  Due to the ESTAE not being established on the S8,
  you may see the following errors if a program check
  does occur on an S8 TCB:
  CEE0374C CONDITION=CEE3250C TOKEN=xxxxxxxx
  DFHSO0001  An abend (code 422/AKEX) has occurred at
             offset X'FFFF' in module DFHSOIS
  AKEX ABEND422 OMVS
  .
    You may also see:
    Tasks hung hang wait on LMQUEUE DSITLOCK lock.
  The owning task shows as running on the SP TCB.
  But, the KE STACK shows it waiting out of DFHLEPT
  for a CREATE_PTHREAD.  Instead of an 0C4,
  module IEAVSTA1 issues an abend (SVCD SVC13)
  

Local fix

Problem summary

  * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users.                              *

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: ABEND0C4 in IEAVSTA1 when trying to add *
  *                      the CICS ESTAE to S8 TCBs.              *
  ****************************************************************
  When CICS creates a new S8 TCB it needs to add the CICS ESTAE
  to ensure that CICS recovery is active for these TCBs.  Changes
  were made to the sockets domain in CICS TS 5.4 to use a 64-bit
  LE enclave for SSL processing.  This change meant that the
  parameter list passed on the ESTAEX call was now in 64-bit
  storage.  ESTAEX does not accept a 64-bit parameter list so an
  0C4 abend occurs in IEAVSTA1 when trying to access this area.
  Consequently the CICS ESTAE is not active for the S8 TCBs.
  An ABEND13C may be seen when the accessed area is addressable.
  

Problem conclusion

• DFHLEPTD has been changed to use a 31-bit storage area for the
  ESTAEX parameter list.
