Error description
s0c7 data exception may occur for programs that MOVE an uninitialized packed decimal number to a zoned decimal field.
Local fix
Ensure sending field is a valid packed decimal number
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL V6.1 running * * programs that MOVE a PACKED-DECIMAL data * * item to a USAGE DISPLAY data item, where * * the receiver more digits to the right of * * the decimal place than the sender and the * * difference in number of digits to the right * * of the decimal place is a multiple of two, * * and the sender has invalid data during * * execution. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The compiled program terminates at * * runtime with an S0C7 exception. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. * **************************************************************** Newer versions of Enterprise COBOL generate different instructions than COBOL V4.2 and earlier. The instructions generated when moving a PACKED-DECIMAL data item to a USAGE DISPLAY data item with the receiver having a multiple of two digits more to the right of the decimal place than the sender produce valid results with valid data but abend with invalid data.
Problem conclusion
The compiler was changed to generate the same instruction sequence as COBOL V4.2 when moving a PACKED-DECIMAL data item to a USAGE DISPLAY data item with the receiver having a multiple of two digits more to the right of the decimal place than the sender.
Temporary fix
