APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • In a dynamic call scenario where non-LE code gets control before
COBOL code, and the program id or entry name is the same as that
of the main COBOL program, the main COBOL progam's CLLE (COBOL
Load List Entry) is incorrectly associated with the newly loaded
module. This leads to the wrong WSA being used, typically
leading to an abend0C4 during initialization of the new compile
    unit.

Local fix

  • Make sure dynamically called compile units have unique names

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Enterprise COBOL V5+ users compiling and *
    * running programs that have the same ENTRY *
    *                 names as the PROGRAM-ID name.                *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Runtime ABEND0C4 in entry IGZXPRS. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
When a COBOL V5+ program is entered via an ENTRY statement that
has the same name as the COBOL MAIN program, the program may
incorrectly use the static control information from the MAIN
program entry point, resulting in a 0C4 ABEND.

Problem conclusion

  • The COBOL runtime has been corrected to avoid the 0C4 ABEND.
