    * and running programs that contain *
    * computations that could produce a negative *
    * result, where the senders and receiver are *
    * at least 10 digits in length, and the *
    * receiver is unsigned, and either specified *
    *                 as COMP-5 or as BINARY/COMP/COMP-4 with      *
    *                 compiler option TRUNC(BIN) in effect.        *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Incorrect results at runtime/migration *
    * problem: A negative result is not *
    * converted to positive when being *
    *                      stored to a 64-bit unsigned binary      *
    *                      receiver.                               *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
    The compiler was incorrectly determining that the sign
    correction to force a positive sign was unnecessary.

Problem conclusion

  • The compiler was fixed to stop removing the sign correction.
    This behavior is now compatible with pre-COBOL V5 compilers.
