APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • COBOL program compiled with the PARMCHECK option may fail to
    execute with the following error:

CEE3204S The system detected a protection exception (System
    Completion Code=0C4).

Local fix

  • When using the PARMCHECK option, the user needs to explicitly
specify the size of the PARMCHECK buffer instead of excepting
the default. For example, use PARMCHECK(MSG,100) instead of
    PARMCHECK(MSG).

An uninitialized variable in the PARMCHECK processing code
could sometimes result in an inappropriate length being used
    for the PARMCHECK buffer.

Problem conclusion

  • The compiler was updated to fix the uninitialized variable
problem in the PARMCHECK processing code.
