Error description

  • You may encounter a "Remote catalog is empty" error when
    attempting to add a remote Maven archetype catalog under RAD
    Maven > Archetypes preferences.

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Navigate to Window > Preferences > Maven > Archetypes;
    2. Click on "Add Remote Catalog" - specify, for example,
    https://public.dhe.ibm.com/ibmdl/export/pub/software/websphere/w
    asdev/maven/repository/archetype-catalog.xml
    3. Click 'Verify'.

    Expected results: the number of archetypes in the catalog should
    be shown in a message at the type of the dialog;
    Actual results: a message "Remote catalog is empty" is
    displayed.

    The issue here stems from a known Eclipse Maven m2e bug -
    https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=515859.

Local fix

  • As a workaround, you can:
    1) Try using HTTP, instead of HTTPS;
    2) Download the catalog file to a local directory and then add
    as a local catalog instead of a remote catalog.

Problem conclusion

  • Updated Mavens to the latest release that supports 9.1.1.4.
    This issue seems resolved with the Maven updates. But there's
    another general issue - when you connect to the Maven repository
    with the https connections, RAD 9.1.1.x has an issue. If an
    user uses the http connection, it works. There's no fix for the
    general issue.

Temporary fix
