    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Runtime ABEND S0C4. When a              *
    *                      PROCEDURE-POINTER to a COBOL V5+        *

    *                      statement, and the PROCEDURE-POINTER    *
    * is subsequently used in a different *
    * program, an S0C4 ABEND may occur. *
    *                                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    *                                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The literal format of the "SET ... TO ENTRY ..." statement does
    not invoke the COBOL runtime, so the pointer is not a proper
    function descriptor that will handle locating the proper
    working-storage for the program.

Problem conclusion

  • The COBOL V5+ bootstrap routines are enhanced to handle being
    called by PROCEDURE-POINTERs
