PI75437: IN Z/OS EXPLORER 3.0.1.2 RECEIVES NULLPOINTEREXCEPTION WHEN COPYING A FILTER A MVS FILTER FROM THE REMOTE SYSTEMS VIEW

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• From the Remote systems view, receives NullPointerException when
  copying a MVS filter with the same name.
  
  The following error is shown in the .log file:

  Steps to reproduce:
  - Select a MVS Filter then right click to copy it then select
  the appropriate filter pool
  - Then select 'Rename' in the 'Duplicate Name Collision' windows
  and keep initial filter name
  in the 'Rename to' field
  - Then click 'OK', a message 'Filter name already exist in this
  filter pool' is displayed
  but receive a NullPointerException.
  

Local fix

Problem summary

• A null pointer exception is logged when the rename dialog (due
  to copy collision) gets displayed for a filter.
  

Problem conclusion

• The null pointer exception comes about because in the
  validatation code for the rename dialog an assumption is made
  that the resource in question is a remote object with a
  corresponding subsystem.  In the case of a filter, there is no
  one corresponding subsystem.
