Error description
The customer has upgraded from 680 to 700 and experienced an increase in CPU during the install of hundreds of OSGi bundles with web-manifests. At 700 the wab feature is automatically installed into Liberty causing the increase of CPU. The wab feature was not present in CICS 680, so the applications were not considered web-application.
Local fix
repackage the application to not be web-application
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Increased CPU usage during installation * * of OSGi bundles containing web * * applications. * **************************************************************** In CICS TS for z/OS 5.1 and 5.2, the wab-1.0 Liberty feature could be removed from the default server.xml. This allowed OSGi bundles with manifests containing a Web-Context root to be installed, but not as web applications. Enhancements to CICS TS for z/OS 5.3 mean the wab-1.0 feature is now required by CICS and included in the cicsts:core-1.0 and cicsts:standard-1.0 features. As a result Liberty will now treat OSGi bundles with a Web-Context root as web applications and install them as such, which for a large number of OSGi bundles may cause a noticeable increase in CPU.
Problem conclusion
The CICS Transaction Server for z/OS Version 5 Release 3 Upgrading to CICS TS Version 5.3 (GC34-7436-00) and Java Applications in CICS (SC34-7417-00) manuals will be updated to state that the wab-1.0 feature is now required, and part of cicsts:core-1.0 and cicsts:standard-1.0.
