  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • If a parameter that belongs under SYSTSIN DD (such as
    Maxerrors) is placed instead under ADBTEPIN DD, the job ends
    with RC=0 (and the parameter is ignored), instead of ending
    with RC>4.

    * fails and the message issued is not *
    *                      helpful.                                *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    When invalid parameters are specified or an invalid value is
    specified for parameter BINDERROR under the ADBTEPIN DD card,
    the Batch Restart job ADBTEP2 fails with RC=12 / RC12 and the
    message issued is not helpful, for example:

       8 returned from DSN
       Treating as severe error, possible ABEND: 8

Problem conclusion

  • 1. The ADBTEP2 batch job will issue a new error message
    ADB5700E / msgadb5700e and stop processing with a return
    code RC=8 / RC8 when an invalid parameters are specified
    under the ADBTEPIN DD card:

    ADB5700E Unrecognized parameter in the
             ADBTEPIN DD card:
             parameter_name

    Explanation: An invalid parameter name was specified
                 in the ADBTEPIN DD card.
    System action: Processing stops.
    User response: Remove or correct the invalid parameter
                   name and resubmit the job.

    2. The ADBTEP2 batch job will issue a new error message
    ADB5701E / msgadb5701e and stop processing with a
    return code RC=8 / RC8 when an invalid value is specified
    for parameter BINDERROR under the ADBTEPIN DD card:

    ADB5701E Invalid value for parameter BINDERROR
             in the ADBTEPIN DD card: parameter_value.
             Valid values are MAXE, SAVE and IGNORE.
             If MAXE is specified, the value n that is
             specified for MAXE(n) parameter in the
             PARMS field of the DB2 RUN statement
             determines the number of DSN commands
             that can fail before the batch job is
             terminated.
    Explanation: An invalid value was specified for parameter
                 BINDERROR in the ADBTEPIN DD card.
    System action: Processing stops.
    User response: Correct the invalid value and resubmit the
                   job.
    3. ADBTEP2 batch job will issue the existing message
    ADB5000E and stop processing with a return code RC=8 / RC8
    when an invalid value is specified for other parameters except
    BINDERROR under the ADBTEPIN DD card:

    ADB5000E An invalid value was specified for parameter
             parameter_name=parameter_value.
    System action: Processing stops.
    User response: Specify a valid value for the parameter.
