Error description

  • In z/os Explorer 3.0.0.3 and IBM Rational Developer for z
    Systems 9.5.1,
if a user opens a member for edit in a library where only read
    access is allowed
and tries to save, the user sees a status bar and the message
"Synchronizing resources..." but no error message is returned to
    the user.
However, an ICH408I message about the denied access can be seen
    in the system log.

Prior to the z/os Explorer 3.0.0.3 update, the user would get
this error message when trying to save:
Operation failed. Input - or output failure
Message being avoided CRRZ0277E system ABEND 913-38
CRRZI0279E An OPEN was for a RACF file offset for which the
    caller is not authorized.

Code is being changed to add the error message back to notify
the user that he/she does not have access to alter/edit the
    member.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • When saving a data set member for which the user has no write
access, z/OS Explorer does not issue any messages and it appears
that the data is saved successfully.

Problem conclusion

  • When attempting to write a data set member for which the user
has no write access, RSE host does not send the correct ABEND
    information back to the client.

Server code is updated to send ABEND information to the client
and client is updated to display a dialog to Save As the files
that can't be saved to original location. Client is also
updated to indicate in the editor session that the file was not
saved by displaying asterisk (*) on the file editor title.
