Error description

  • IGZ0032S A CANCEL was attempted on active program program-name.

When PL/I fetches a COBOL program and that program dynamically
calls another COBOL program that fails... the error occurs
during termination as COBOL still sees the fetched COBOL
program as active. This is a change in behavior from Cobol V4.

    COBOL V4.2:
CEE3204S The system detected a protection exception (System
    Completion Code=0C4).

    COBOL V5.1:
CEE3204S The system detected a protection exception (System
    Completion Code=0C4).
IGZ0032S A CANCEL was attempted on active program program-name.

Local fix

  • Ignore the IGZ0032S CANCEL message

    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
The error handling logic issues the IGZ0032S message even
though an ABEND occurred in a dynamically called COBOL program
that is in a mixed environment with PL/I modules.

Problem conclusion

  • The error handling logic mentioned in the summary has been
corrected. The IGZ0032S message is not being issued anymore
when a COBOL program ABENDs and is dynamically called by
another COBOL program that is fetched from PL/I.
