Error description

  • When zparm MAXTEMPS is set to 0041944064, a SELECT statement
returning a large amount of data such as 40G, will incur the
SQLCODE-904 with reason code 00C90305 RC00C90305.

Local fix

  • set MAXTEMPS to zero as a bypass

The MAXTEMPS subsystem parameter determines the maximum amount
of temporary storage in the work file database and the
acceptable maximum value is 2147483647 in MB units. DB2 uses a
31 bit variable to store MAXTEMPS and needs transfer it to KB
units. When the MAXTEMPS is set to a large value (customer case
is 41944064), the significant digits are truncated. It causes
DB2 to use wrong value to calculate the maximum amount of
temporary storage and rusults in the reported SQLCODE904.

Problem conclusion

  • DB2 code is modified to correct the problem.
