Error description

• The DB2 Administration Tool for z/OS' ALT function MAKEPBR
  against a UTS uses a DROP/CREATE rather than an ALTER when the
  partitioning column is a DATE type.

  *                 for z/OS who use the 'ALT Redefine           *
  *                 a table space' (ALT) command to alter        *
  *                 a partitioned table space to a               *
  *                 Partition-by-Range (PBR) table space,        *
  *                 and the table space is using                 *
  *                 index-controlled partitioning. The           *
  *                 tablespace is not a LARGE table space        *
  *                 and the partitioning key has a               *
  *                 DATE type column.                            *

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When altering a partitioned table       *
  *                      space which uses index-controlled       *
  *                      partitioning for a PBR table space,     *
  *                      the generated change file has the       *
  *                      following ALTER statement:              *
  *                                                              *
  *                         ALTER TABLE >table_name<             *
  *                      ALTER PARTITION X ENDING AT             *
  *                      ((MAXVALUE,MAXVALUE,MAXVALUE,           *
  *                      MAXVALUE,MAXVALUE,'MAXVALUE',           *
  *                      'MAXVALUE');                            *
  *                                                              *
  *                      The last two 'MAXVALUE' entries         *
  *                      were the values for DATE column         *
  *                      types and were enclosed in quotes       *
  *                      in error causing the job to fail        *
  *                      with a SQLCODE=-678 /                   *
  *                      SQLCODEN678:                            *
  *                                                              *
  *                      DSNT408I SQLCODE = -678, ERROR:         *

  When altering a table space to change the table space type from
  partitioned table space to PBR, the generated ALTER statement
  contains quotes on the MAXVALUE parameter for DATE column
  type.
