Error description

  • In DB2 V11 CM , DB2 Admin Tool V11 doesn't allow to alter the
bufferpool variables SPSIZE nor SPSEQT. SPSIZE and SPSEQT were
    added to DB2 V11 by APAR PI22091.

Up to now it's not possible to specfiy these options in ALTER
BUFFER POOL panel ADB2ZBA8 of DB2 Administration Tool.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: DB2 11 for z/OS added two new options   *
    * SPSIZE and SPSEQT for the ALTER *
    *                      BUFFERPOOL command, but DB2 Admin       *
    * did not list options SPSIZE and *
    *                      SPSEQT on panel ADB2ZBA2 'Alter         *

    ****************************************************************
DB2 11 for z/OS added two new options SPSIZE and SPSEQT for
the ALTER BUFFERPOOL command, but DB2 Admin did not list
options SPSIZE and SPSEQT on panel ADB2ZBA2 'Alter Buffer
Pools' and ADB2ZBA8 'Alter Buffer Pool'.

Comments

  • The following are delivered:

    1. Add a primary command called 'VIEW' on panel ADB2ZBA2.
Column SPSIZE and SPSEQT are displayed by issuing the
primary command 'VIEW' on panel ADB2ZBA2.

    2. Add option SPSIZE and SPSEQT on panel ADB2ZBA8.

    3. Remove column VPXPSEQT from panel ADB2ZBA2, and
remove option VPXPSEQT from panel ADB2ZBA8, since
VPXPSEQT is obsolete starting with DB2 11 for z/OS.

    4. Add the following for panel columns on help panel
ADBHZBA2 'HELP: Alter Buffer Pools' as below.

    Panel Explanation:

The table display panel shows the attributes that you
can alter on buffer pools. The panel columns are:

    VPSIZE The buffer pool size.
VPSIZEMIN The minimum size for the buffer pool.
VPSIZEMAX The maximum size for the buffer pool.
AUTOSIZE Specifies whether the buffer pool adjustment
              is turned on or off.
No - Specifies that DB2 does not use Workload
Manager (WLM) services for automatic buffer
pool size adjustment. This value is the default.
Yes - Specifies that DB2 uses WLM services, if
available, to automatically adjust the buffer
             pool size as appropriate.
FRAMESIZE The frame size for the buffer pool. Possible
              values are 2G,1M,or 4K.
PGFIX Whether the buffer pool is fixed in real storage
              when it is used.
YES - The buffer pool is fixed in real storage. YES
also indicates that the PGFIX value for the current
allocation (Current value) and the value for the
next allocation (Pending value) are the same.
NO - The buffer pool is not fixed in real storage.
NO also indicates that the PGFIX value for the
current allocation and the value for the next
              allocation are the same.
YES* - Indicates that the PGFIX value for the current
allocation is NO but the value for the next
allocation is YES. The Pending value YES will be
displayed in the PGFIX field on the following panel
after entering an AL line command on a buffer pool.
NO* - Indicates that the PGFIX value for the current
allocation is YES but the value for the next
allocation is NO. The Pending value NO will be
displayed in the PGFIX field on the following panel
after entering an AL line command on a buffer pool.
PGSTEAL The page-stealing algorithm that DB2 uses for the
buffer pool. The initial default is PGSTEAL(LRU).
LRU - Specifies that the buffer pool buffers are managed
according to the rules of a least recently used (LRU)
              algorithm.
FIFO - Specifies that the buffer pool buffers are managed
according to the rules of a first-in-first-out (FIFO)
algorithm. This option reduces the cost of
maintaining the information about which buffers are
              least-recently used.
NONE - Specifies that no page stealing occurs if the buffer
pool is large enough to contain all assigned open
objects. Under this option, DB2 pre-loads the buffer
pools when the objects are opened.
VPSEQT The sequential steal threshold for the buffer pool.
The value of integer must be 0 - 100.
VPPSEQT The parallel sequential threshold for the buffer pool.
The valid values range is 0 - 100.
DWQT The buffer pool's deferred write threshold.
The valid values range is 0 - 90.
VDWQT The buffer pool's vertical deferred write threshold.
Vertical DWQT, integer1: The vertical deferred write
threshold for the buffer pool. The valid values range
              is 0 - 90.
Vertical DWQT, integer2: The vertical deferred write
threshold for the buffer pool. The value of integer-2
can range from 0-9999. The default value is 0.

SPSIZE The simulated buffer pool size.
SPSEQT The sequential steal threshold for the simulated
buffer pool. The value must be between 0 and 100.

    Valid line commands:
AL - Alter buffer pool attributes.
DIS - Display buffer pool incremental statistics.

    Valid commands:
VIEW - Display SPSIZE and SPSEQT.
