Error description
When you are touching a file in an IBM Rational ClearCase dynamic view in version 8.0.1.x or later on SUSE Linux, you may find that the time appears to be backwards for the second time you touched the file: root@machine:/vbs/vob> /tmp/a.out -s 500000;ls --full-time touch* -r-----r-- 1 root root 0 2015-06-18 18:43:14.249889000 -0400 touchFirst -r-----r-- 1 root root 0 2015-06-18 18:43:14.000000000 -0400 touchSecond

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: * * Users of IBM Rational ClearCase on Linux systems with view * * storage on ext2 or ext3 filesystems, or accessing those * * versions through NFS. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * * When the filesystem used for ClearCase view storage does not * * support sub-second timestamp granularity, the timestamps * * reported for ClearCase view-private files may seem * * inconsistent. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * ****************************************************************
Problem conclusion
The way the IBM Rational ClearCase MVFS filesystem validates and sets time-stamps was improved. Additionally, the resolution of view private files time-stamps will never be better than the resolution of the view storage file-system.
