Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: IBM WebSphere Application Server Full * * Profile verions 8.0 and 8.5.5 and Liberty * * Profile version 8.5.5 users * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Error message SRVE0255E fills up the * * SystemOut log * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When the WebSphere Application Server can not find any application to handle a request, it returns a 404 response with the "WebGroup Not Found" message. An error SRVE0255E message is also logged in the SystemOut log. This is the expected behavior. Some applications are using this 404 response as a way to check whether the WebSphere Application Server is alive. While there is no functional issue, the SystemOut.log is filled up with the error SRVE0255E in this scenario.
Problem conclusion
The WebContainer code was modified to suppress the logging of error SRVE0255E message in the SystemOut log for a specified request. The 404 response "WebGroup Not Found" is still returned. A new WebContainer custom property needs to be set to enable the behavior provided by this APAR. com.ibm.ws.webcontainer.suppressLoggingWebGroupVhostNotFound = String (default is empty) Example: com.ibm.ws.webcontainer.suppressLoggingWebGroupVhostNotFound = "/" com.ibm.ws.webcontainer.suppressLoggingWebGroupVhostNotFound = "/Context/Application/NotExist" The specified request URI string is case insensitive. Only one request URI is supported and needs to match exactly (i.e no wild card) before the error message is suppressed. Please refer to the following technote for instructions on enabling WebContainer custom properties: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rss=180&uid=swg21284395 For Liberty profile: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21597753 The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 8.0.0.11 and 8.5.5.7. Please refer to the recommended updates page for delivery information: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&uid=swg27004980
