Error description

  • The problem affects the users running COBOL programs in
    multiple threads. It may occur during POSIX thread termination,
    if an asynchronous signal is raised while thread level storage
    is being cleaned up, the module IGZXSIG would attempt to handle
    the signal by referencing the COBOL thread control block that
    has already been freed, resulting in an S0C4 ABEND.

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    During POSIX thread termination, if an asynchronous signal is
    raised while thread level storage is being cleaned up, the
    module IGZXSIG would attempt to handle the signal by referencing
    the COBOL thread control block that has already been freed,
    resulting in an S0C4 ABEND.

Problem conclusion

  • Before freeing the thread control block storage, zero out the
    pointer to that storage first so that IGZXSIG will not attempt
    to handle any asynchronous signal, but letting LE take the
    default action.
