Error description
While performing a build on RedHat Enterprise Linux and IBM Rational ClearCase (versions 8.0.0.9 or 8.0.1.2 and later) the kernel will intermittently panic and the machine reboots. The panic is seen in the mvfs xdr routine: PID: XXXX TASK: ffff880425ea16c0 CPU: 3 COMMAND: "cleartool" #0 [ffff88008a22f198] machine_kexec at ffffffff81041181 #1 [ffff88008a22f1f0] crash_kexec at ffffffff810cf0e2 #2 [ffff88008a22f2c0] oops_end at ffffffff815ea548 #3 [ffff88008a22f338] __bad_area_nosemaphore at ffffffff815daff9 #4 [ffff88008a22f380] bad_area at ffffffff815db377 #5 [ffff88008a22f3a8] __do_page_fault at ffffffff815ed4ac #6 [ffff88008a22f4a8] do_page_fault at ffffffff815ed58a #7 [ffff88008a22f4d0] page_fault at ffffffff815e97c8 [exception RIP: xdr_string+90] RIP: ffffffffa042995e RSP: ffff88008a22f580 RFLAGS: 00210286 RAX: 0000000000000000 RBX: ffff88008a22f5d8 RCX: ffffffffffffffff RDX: 00000000000000ff RSI: ffff880041b22b68 RDI: 0000000000000000 RBP: ffff88008a22f5a8 R8: ffff880041b22b00 R9: 0000000000000001 R10: ffff88022b88003e R11: ffffffffa04341da R12: 0000000000000000 R13: 00000000000000ff R14: ffffffffa042703f R15: ffff88022b880058 ORIG_RAX: ffffffffffffffff CS: 0010 SS: 0018 #8 [ffff88008a22f5b0] xdr_view_lookup_req_t at ffffffffa0424bb4 [mvfs] #9 [ffff88008a22f5d0] mvfs_linux_xdr_encode_view_lookup at ffffffffa0427089 [mvfs] This occurs in rare conditions where we hit a race condition while performing a lookup on a history mode name.
