Error description
On a Windows server, after applying a database patch using ccmdb_patch_72xx.bat, the Synergy Administrator is required to run postdb_72xx.bat to complete the patch process. However, if the case of the Synergy Server URL with which the database is registered does not match the case of the Synergy Server URL in 'ccm monitor', this will fail with the following output: Starting a session on \\srv721\ccmdb\testdb Warning: Lost connection to engine, exiting Warning: IBM Rational Synergy startup failed. Unable to startup a session against \\srv721\ccmdb\testdb Check engine and UI logs Database \\srv721\ccmdb\testdb not updated with patch 7.2.1.1 changes The ccm_ui.log file states: IBM Rational Synergy server starting on host SRV721, using database \\srv721\ccmdb\testdb ... Warning: Lost connection to engine, exiting The file ccm_eng.log states No server for DatabaseUtilities requests. FATAL: License support not installed. The difference in case should not matter on a Windows server, and the error message reported is neither helpful nor accurate. To show the discrepancy, run: ? ccm show_servers Database Server \\srv721\ccmdb\testdb http://srv721:8400 and compare that to the Server URL in the output of 'ccm monitor' username server SRV721 ???? ???? Server URL - http://SRV721:8400 Note that the case of the Server URL does not match. This would not normally matter on Windows. but because of this defect Synergy is unable to find the required Database Utilities to complete the patch operation using the server URL with the non-matching case. There is a workaround: 1. Navigate to the Synergy web admin page, for example: http://SRV721:8400/admin and login as the Synergy admin user. 2. In the 'Databases' tab delete the entry for the affected database: \\srv721\ccmdb\testdb 3. Log out of the web admin page 4. Login back into web admin page (this is important) 5. In the 'Databases' tab add the database \\srv721\ccmdb\testdb back. 6. Logout of web admin again. 7. At this point, compare the output of both 'ccm monitor' and 'ccm show_servers' at the command prompt. Note: when the Server URL has the same hostname (with respect to case) in both 'ccm monitor' and 'ccm show_servers' run the postdb_72xx.bat on that database again.
