    ****************************************************************
The DB2 Administration Tool for z/OS Batch Restart program
    ADBTEP2 returns RC = 4 with a warning message ADB5256W /
    msgadb5256w:

ADB5256W 'The SSID parameter that is passed to the program
    is not recognized.'

when specifying a group attachment name as the SSID()
parameter in an environment where the group attachment
name is configured but data sharing is not enabled.

The user believes the return code should be 0 because the job
runs everything successfully and the warning message
ADB5256W / msgadb5256w does not provide enough information
for them to understand the problem.

Problem conclusion

  • The following warning messages are changed from

    ADB5254W / msgadb5254w
    ADB5255W / msgadb5255w
    ADB5256W / msgadb5256w

    to information messages:

    ADB5254I / msgadb5254i
    ADB5255I / msgadb5255i
    ADB5256I / msgadb5256i

ADB5254I The SSID parameter that is passed to
the program can not be validated.
The information that is used for SSID
                    validation can not be obtained
because an IFI return code return_code
                    and a reason code reason_code
occurred during execution of the -DIS
                    GROUP DETAIL DB2 command.
Explanation: The -DIS GROUP DETAIL command fails,
therefore no information can be used to
                    validate the SSID parameter.
    System action: Processing continues.
User response: Optionally, verify that the value in the
SSID parameter is correct if job fails.

ADB5255I The SSID parameter that is passed to
the program can not be validated.
The information that is used for SSID
validation is not complete in the
output of -DIS GROUP DETAIL command.
More information than can be displayed
                    exists.
Explanation: The maximum number of subgroup attachment
groups is displayed in the output from
executing the -DIS GROUP DETAIL DB2 command.
More information exists but cannot be displayed.
The SSID is passed to the program but is not
                    validated.
    System action: Processing continues.
User response: Optionally, verify that the value in the SSID
parameter is correct if job fails.

ADB5256I The SSID parameter that is passed to the program
is not recognized as a DB2 subsystem name in a
                    non-data sharing environment, or as a DB2
subsystem name for a member, group, or subgroup
                    in a data sharing environment.
Explanation: The SSID parameter that is passed to the program
does not match one of DB2 subsystem names, group
attachment name or subgroup attachment names in
the output from executing the -DIS GROUP DETAIL
DB2 command. The SSID problem might cause the
                    job to fail.
    System action: Processing continues.
User response: Optionally, verify that the value in the SSID
parameter is correct if job fails.

to provide a more meaningful explanation, and return code 0 /
RC = 0 will be observed in the successful job instead of return
    code 4 / RC = 4.
