PI20541: VARCHAR(4) TO INTEGER CHANGE RESULTS IN ALL RECORDS BEING DISCAR ED WHEN NOPAD USED OR ONLY NULL VALUE COLUMNS BEING LOADED.

APAR status

Error description

• The DB2 Administration Tool for z/OS' Change Management function
  created incorrect DB2 utility statements which results in data
  being discarded incorrectly.
  

Local fix

• Correct the POSITION information in the syntax to take into
  account the lenght of VARCHAR columns.

  *                 to INTEGER.                                  *

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When altering a column type from        *
  *                      VARCHAR(4) to INTEGER the LOAD utility  *
  *                      discards some valid data records in     *
  *                      the following two cases:                *
  *                                                              *
  *                      1- When using the NOPAD option for      *
  *                      the UNLOAD utility, the LOAD utility    *
  *                      will discard all data records           *
  *                      converted by DB2 Admin with the         *
  *                      following error message:                *
  *                                                              *
  *                      DSNU318I csect-name RECORD              *
  *                      (n) WILL BE DISCARDED DUE TO            *
  *                      INVALID field-name COLUMN               *
  *                      SPECIFICATION FOR table-name            *
  *                                                              *
  *                      2- When removing the NOPAD option       *
  *                      for the UNLOAD utility, the LOAD        *
  *                      utility will discard all data           *
  *                      records except the records with a       *
  *                      NULL value for the altered column       *
  *                      type and the following message          *
  *                      will be issued:                         *
  *                                                              *
  *                      DSNU310I csect-name RECORD              *
  *                      (n) WILL BE DISCARDED DUE TO            *
  *                      'field-name' CONVERSION ERROR           *
  *                      FOR table-name ERROR CODE               *
  *                      '02 - INPUT NUMERIC INVALID'            *

  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

  When altering a column type from VARCHAR(4) to INTEGER the
  LOAD utility discards some valid data records in the following
  two cases:
  
  1- When using the NOPAD option for the UNLOAD utility, the
  LOAD utility will discard all data records converted by
  DB2 Admin with the following error message:
  
  DSNU318I csect-name RECORD (n) WILL BE DISCARDED
  DUE TO INVALID field-name COLUMN SPECIFICATION FOR
  table-name
  
  2- When removing the NOPAD option for the UNLOAD utility, the
  LOAD utility will discard all data records except the records
  with a NULL value for the altered column type and the
  following message will be issued:
  
  DSNU310I csect-name RECORD (n) WILL BE DISCARDED
  DUE TO 'field-name' CONVERSION ERROR FOR table-name
  ERROR CODE '02 - INPUT NUMERIC INVALID'
