Error description

  • While installing DB2 Admin V11.1 on a system where the ISPF
    libraries are NOT in the linklist, enter the ISPF load library
    in the ISPF LLIB1 field in the LPAR parameters and leave the
    link list library blank (because do not have a link list to
    use). As a result, the A0CUSTxx job generates without a
    ISPLLIB DD which causes the job to fail, but the job STILL
    ends with an RC=0. There are two items:
    1) If an error in the A0CUSTxx job (in this case it was an
       RC -3), the overall job should end with a non-warning return
       code (RC >= 8).
    2) The description of the link list library value on the LPAR
       Parameters panel describes this value as the value of the
       link list library which is OK but the help for the ISPF
       LLIB1 field on the same panel is described as the load
       library value if not in the link list which is true but it
       wasn't used.
    The template ADBCUST in SADBDENU shows the value checked as
    being the link list library name and not the ISPF LLIB1 (or
    ISPF LLIB2 for that matter). This is the cause of the ISPF
    load lib missing from the generated job.

    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When the following LPAR Parameters *
    *                      'ISPF Llib1' and/or 'ISPF Llib2' are    *
    * specified (generally if ISPF is not in *
    * Linklist), submission of the generated *
    * job template ADBCUST ends with *
    *                      RC=0 / Return Code 0.  However,         *
    * the ADBCUST job output shows that it *
    *                      actually failed with RC=-3 / Return     *
    * Code -3 due to an ISPF environment *
    * not being available. Hence, no *
    *                      processing / update to Customization    *
    * table ADBTPARM took place. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    When the following LPAR Parameters 'ISPF Llib1' and/or
    'ISPF Llib2' are specified (generally if ISPF is not in
    Linklist), submission of the generated job template
    ADBCUST endswith RC=0 / Return Code 0. However, ADBCUST
    job output shows that it actually failed with RC=-3 /
    Return Code -3 due to an ISPF environment not being
    available. Hence, no processing / update to
    Customization table ADBTPARM took place.

Problem conclusion

  • Problem has been resolved with the following fixes:

    1. Fixed error handling of rc=-3 and insured that job
    template ADBCUST returns the following error message:

    RC=-3: Processing of job template ADBCUST
    failed due to ISPF environment not available or ISPF
    not in Linklist, hence the reason this job ends with
    a misleading MAXCC=0000.

    To resolve, please check panel CCQPLPR 'LPAR Parameters'
    and ensure a valid ISPF Load Library is specified.

    2. Removed the following three misleading parameters from
    panel CCQPLPR 'LPAR Parameters':

    - Link list library
    - ISPF Llib1
    - ISPF Llib2

    and replaced them with one intuitive parameter 'Load library'
    with the following field help information:

    CCQY004I Enter the ISPF Load library. This library will be
    used by the Tools Customizer generated batch jobs where
    applicable. Note: Specifying the ISPF Load library is optional
    if ISPF is already available in Link List.
