Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server V8.5 Session Initiation Protocol * * (SIP) * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: SipTimers are not being removed until * * they are expired * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Because SipTimers use a Java Timer mechanism, a cancelled TimerTask isn't being removed from memory until it's expired.
Problem conclusion
The solution is to call the Java Timer "purge" method which removes all cancelled TimerTasks from the queue and lets the garbage collector clean them from memory. The fix lets a customer define after how many cancelled tasks the "purge" method will be called. That's by defining the follwing custom property: "canceled.tasks.before.timer.purge = NUM", where NUM is the desired number of cancelled tasks that will lead to the "purge". The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 8.5.5.3.
