Error description
Using ISRSUPC in batch mode to search for a term. Concatenation of two PO datasets in NEWDD DD-Statement as libraries to be searched. Both datasets have same BLKSIZE (27998) and RECFM(VB). But different LRECL (one has 450, the other 256). Both datasets are not large. 48 and 19 tracks are used. When dataset with LRECL 450 is first in concatenation, job ends immedeatly with using CPU-Time near to nothing. And correct result. When the dataset with LRECL 256 is first in concatenation, then job needs a lot of CPU (> 1000 CPU-sec.). We tried in this bad combination to add a DCB=(LRECL=450)-parm to the first LRECL 256 dataset. Then it works as fast as if the LRECL 450 dataset would be in front of concatenation.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All z/OS users using ASMFSUPC to search * * PDSs. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: ASMFSUPC may loop when searching a * * concatenation containing a variable * * blocked partitioned data set. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When ASMFSUPC allocates a data set concatenation to be searched, it opens it using the logical record length of the first data set in the concatenation. If a subsequent data set is a variable blocked partitioned dataset containing records which are longer than the logical record length of the first data set in the concatenation, ASMFSUPC detects this as an error, but this is not adequately handled, resulting in a loop.
Problem conclusion
ASMFSUPC has been modified to allocate the search data set concatenation using the largest data set logical record length of the concatenation.
