Error description
DB2 Administration Tool for z/OS Change Management does not specify enough information when dealing with IDENTITY values changes
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of the DB2 Administration Tool for * * z/OS who specify value 'Computed' for * * field 'IDENTITY START value' on panel * * ADB2C11A 'Generate Analyze Job', and * * there are changes on a table. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: In DB2 Administration Tool for z/OS, * * when analyzing a change that has a * * table containing an identity column, * * the table needs to be dropped * * and recreated after analyzing, and * * specifying 'Computed' for the field * * 'IDENTITY START value' on panel * * ADB2C11A, the verification step in * * the Analyze job fails with RC =8 / * * Return Code 8 and the following * * error message ADBC099E / * * msgadbc099e is observed: * * * * ADBC099E: WSL mismatch. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** If 'Computed' is specified for 'IDENTITY START value' field, the computed value will be based upon the existing identity column attributes at the time the DDL is produced, such as MAXASSIGNED and the current cache size. Any changes made after the creation of the DDL, to either the identity values or to the data, are not reflected in the DDL, and as a result, the DDL is obsolete. The DB2 Administration Tool will not locate an unassigned value from the existing data, and ultimately a new RESTART value might need to be provided based upon the underlying data and the application needs. As the computed value for the identity column was different from its real value, the verification step will fail with the error message ADBC099E / msgadbc099e as expected. The user should provide the correct start value of the identity column to avoid the failure.
Problem conclusion
The description of 'IDENTITY START value' field on help panel ADBHC11A 'HELP - Generate Analyze Job', ADBH7P 'HELP: ALTER Analysis Options', and ADBH8M 'HELP: Migrate Parameters' has been improved as a note was added to explain the computed value: Note: If Computed is specified, the computed value will be based upon the existing identity column attributes at the time the DDL is produced, such as MAXASSIGNED and the current cache size. Any changes made after the creation of the DDL, to either the identity values or to the data, are not reflected in the DDL and, make the DDL obsolete. The product will not locate an unassigned value from the existing data, and ultimately a new RESTART value might need to be provided based upon the underlying data and the application needs. application needs.
