Error description

  • When initializing the GDPS Kg or Kr NetViews on GDPS V4R7
and there are no production systems defined in the remote
region, GDPS phase1 initialization fails with the following:

    VPCEINIT: Start of Phase1 Initialization
    ...
    VPCCSITE: 'ENDM: VPCCSITE RC=8 RSN=(005)'
VPCEIPSX: Failed to restore primary role list and site table
              from DSISVRT
VPCEINIT: Unsuccessful end of Phase1 Initialization

    Additional symptom:

GDPS Metro initialization can fail if there are no production
systems defined in either SITE1 or SITE2.

Local fix

  • To avoid this issue:

Before updating to 4.7, add a dummy production system in
the configuration. After you have added it, confirm that
the following commands display global variables containing
    system definition data.

In the Kg and Kr NetViews (for GDPS GM) issue these commands:

    WINDOW VPCEQS VPC_SYSTEM_SITER.*
    WINDOW VPCEQS VPC_SYSTEM_SITERA.*

Or these in the primary Kp NetView (for GDPS Metro)

    WINDOW VPCEQS VPC_SYSTEM_SITE1.*
    WINDOW VPCEQS VPC_SYSTEM_SITE1A.*
    WINDOW VPCEQS VPC_SYSTEM_SITE2.*
    WINDOW VPCEQS VPC_SYSTEM_SITE2A.*

    ****************************************************************
If no production systems are defined in a site or region,
GDPS Global - GM and GDPS Metro try to restore site table
global variables from the NetView DSISVRT dataset that were not
previously stored in it. This leads to a GDPS initialization
failure due to variables not found.

Problem conclusion

  • This PTF corrects the reported problems. GDPS is changed to
accept the absence of the global variables and set them if
    necessary.
