Error description

  • While in the process of upgrading to CPSM 6,1, the CMAS has been
upgraded to 6.1. The MASes were upgraded to CPSM 6.1 while
running CICS 5.6. Now during start up the EYUCS0207W and
EYUCS0208I messages began to appear in the log for some of the
    MAS regions:

EYUCS0207W applid Connected MAS CICSMAS is not responding -
    APPLID(CICSMAS) CICSplex(CICSPLX).
EYUCS0208I applid Connected MAS CICSMAS is now responding -
    APPLID(CICSMAS) CICSplex(CICSPLX).

The MAS CICSMAS was deemed non-responsive shortly after the TOP
Connect was completed to the CMAS. From a CICS perspective the
region was not hung or looping. The MAS did receive the MOS
NQCR MAL from the CMAS. But when it tried to tried to return
the MAL to the CMAS it failed with these exceptions:

Task Mtd Prev Tran Obj Level Pt-ID Debug UOW CMAS/Usr Envr
      Local TOD GMT Clock Date

139 CAMR XLOP COIR COM Excp 1 CAMRXCP CPSM CICTRTA1 LMAS
    09:55:18.61702 14:55:18.61702 2/07/24

139 XLOP .... COIR KNL Excp 2 CAMRFail CPSM CICTRTA1 LMAS
    09:55:18.61702 14:55:18.61702 2/07/24

The MAL failed to be returned to the CMAS with its response.
This failure in CAMR is what caused the CMAS to think the MAS
was unresponsive. This failure occurred running the COIR task
which is the RTA EVALDEF task.

Local fix

  • This issue only occurs when the RTA configuration has the
separate task indicator (SEPTASK) set to YES on the evaluation
definition (EVALDEF). Setting this to NO should bypass the
issue, though it will change the behavior of the evaluation,
with it running on the MAS LRT (long running task) rather than
running on a separate task which is started for the evaluation.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A CMAS may report a MAS region as *
    *                      unresponsive with message EYUCS0207W or *
    * the MAS region may abend ASRA in CAMR. *
    * when a MAS resource monitoring (MRM) *
    * evaluation definition is defined for a *
    *                      CICSRGN resource.                       *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply PTFs to all CMAS and MAS regions. *
    * This may be performed in any order. *
    ****************************************************************
Real-time analysis (RTA) MRM evaluation definitions can be
configured to monitor the CICSRGN resources. The requests to
inquire these resources are sent to the appropriate MAS regions.
The inquire for this resource is handled by EYU0NQCR. However
logic to convert time values for the resource may overlay
    working storage.

As a result, if the evaluation definition has the separate task
indicator set, the field, KOPB_OACB_MPFX, required to reply to
the request may be overlaid. With the incorrect value in
KOPB_OACB_MPFX, the function to reply to the CMAS, CAMR may
fail. The CAMR call may fail with reason METHOD_FAILED, or
a 0C4 abend occurs in CAMR, which results in the MAS abending
ASRA in CAMR (ASRA with SCODE=S00C4 TRAN=COIR). The failure in
CAMR prevents the CMAS receiving the required response,
resulting in the CMAS reporting the MAS as unresponsive with
    the following message:
EYUCS0207W applid Connected MAS CICSMAS is not responding -
    APPLID(CICSMAS) CICSplex(CICSPLX).

Problem conclusion

  • The convert time logic in EYU0NQCR has been corrected to
address the overlay, to allow CAMR to respond correctly.
