APAR status

Error description

  • When executing the Application Discovery build in a COBOL
project, several IAYAA0052I messages say CBL programs were not
compiled by AD.

     [1/29/2024  10:17 AM]  IAYAA0052I Compilation of the
'POSPTEST.txt' file failed. The process was terminated due to
long time processing.
     [1/29/2024  10:17 AM]  unable to compile the file...

It only occurs sometimes and does not happen with the same CBL
programs every time.

* lead to forcibly close the compiler instances, meaning       *
* analyzed data for those programs was missing from the        *
* database repository.                                         *

Problem conclusion

  • During testing we noticed the compiler instances size reached
3.6Gb at run-time, but being compiled for 32 bits were very
close to the maximum limit for a 32 bit program, after which un
undefined-behaviour was noticed: either crash, Windows closing
it or the program being stuck.
The fix consists of code changes applied to optimize a bit the
dynamic-resolution algorithm so that on the same programs
reaching 3.6Gb, now only ~2.5Gb  max size was noticed, also
leading to a small performance improvement.
