  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • IHS should enable HEAPPOOLS/HEAPPOOLS64 LE option by default in
    new instances. It is especially useful in multi-threaded System
    SSL usage.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM HTTP Server on z/OS *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: IHS may have very poor performance with *
    * SSL enabled when ICSF is using software *
    * emulation instead of CPACF *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    ICSF without CPACF makes frequent heap allocations. When being
    driven by multi-threaded IHS, it can result in latch contention
    and poor performance (high CPU, handshake delays).

Problem conclusion

  • New instances of IHS will have the following in bin/envvars:
    ```
    # PH59165 enable HEAPPOOLS/HEAPPOOLS64 in new instances
    export _CEE_RUNOPTS="$_CEE_RUNOPTS HEAPPOOLS(ON) HP64(ON)"
    ```

    No change is applied to existing instances.

    The fix for this APAR is targeted for inclusion in IBM HTTP
    Server fix packs 8.5.5.26 and 9.0.5.19. For more information,
