PH59105: DFHDB2029 MESSAGE NOT ISSUED AFTER DB2 CANCEL THREAD FAILS

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When purging or forcepurging a task, CICS issues a Db2 cancel
  thread request before proceeding with the purge of the CICS task
  if CICS determines that the task has a thread over in DB2. You
  notice that occasionally the CANCEL THREAD that is to occur does
  not seem to complete. When reviewing the trace of the forcepurge
  processing you see a trace entry like the following:
  
  AP 3181 D2EX1 EXIT - APPLICATION-REQUEST - IFI CALL
  
  This trace entry shows the CSUB trace for the transaction and in
  the CSUB trace you see that the Terminate thread request (TERM)
  is getting a return code indicating that the call has failed.
  That failure should result in message DFHDB2029 being issued by
  CICS but this message is never issued.

  A CICS-Db2 transaction is forcepurged whilst in Db2. CICS will
  issue a CANCEL THREAD using the IFI command interface. For this
  command to execute in Db2 the CICS region userid requires SYSOPR
  authority. In this case the region userid did not have this
  authority and CICS received a feedback code of 00E60820x but it
  was not externalised to the terminal user. The only evidence is
  by reviewing the CSUB trace in a system dump.
  

Problem conclusion

• DFHD2D2 has been changed to provide information should an IFI
  command fail, by issuing message DFHDB2029.
  
  The IBM Documentation has been updated for message DFHDB2029.
