PH58100: DFHAP0002 SEVERE ERROR (X'1953') IN DFHAPLI3 DURING SHUTDOWN

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Late in CICS shutdown, several regions reported errors for the
  health checker task CHCK:
  
  +DFHAP0002 A severe error (code X'1953') has occurred in module
  DFHAPLI3.
  
  The exception trace entry showed:
  
  AP 1953 APLI  *EXC* - LE Lock Invalid
  
  Late in shutdown, CICS calls LE for PARTITION_TERMINATION which
  does a DELETE_LOCK for the LE_LOCK. This sets flag
  csz_lock_valid off.
  
  The health checker task, CHCK wakes up and program DFHHCHK does
  a LINK to DFHHCC1. The LINK will cause CICS to try to acquire
  the LE_LOCK. The lock request will fail with the LE_LOCK INVALID
  because the csz_lock_valid flag is off. This results in the
  DFHAP0002 1953 error.
  
  This is a shutdown timing issue when CHCK gets resumed
  between the delete of the lock and CICS actually terminating.

  This APAR addresses a timing issue when CICS is shut down.
  
  In the reported problem, an abend DFHAP0002 with error code
  X'1953' was issued during shutdown.
  
  An application issued an EXEC CICS SHUTDOWN.  This drove
  DFHSTP which shuts down various components - including Language
  Environment (LE).  Just as LE was shutdown, the HEALTHCHECKER
  came out of a SUSPEND to run as scheduled.
  
  However, it required an LE lock but this was no longer
  available as LE had just been terminated. CICS issued abend
  DFHAP0002 X'1953'.
  
  This problem does not present if using CEMT P SHUT.
  

Problem conclusion

• CICS HEALTHCHECKER code has been amended to prevent the
  aforementioned scenario.
