APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • In the administrative console, when navigate "Troubleshooting" >
    "Java dumps and cores", select application servers and press
    "System dump" button, then system dump (core dump) is generated.
    
    
    At that time, following message appears in administrative
    console.
    
    
     System dump request was sent successfully to <serverName>.
     The output file for the operation is <generated dump file
    location>.
    
    If a piped program is specfied to Linux core_pattern is
    specified and changed dump generating location, null appears at
    <gemerated dump file location> of above message.
    

Local fix

  • Set core to Linux core_pattern (instead of piped program).

    If system core dumps are piped to an external program by
    specifying it in the Linux core_pattern file, the JVM may be
    unable to locate the core dumps. The message in the
    Administrative Console to indicating the core dump file location
    will be null.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The code was updated to ensure if the JVM is unable to locate th
    file location of the core dump file, it will not show null, in
    the Administrative Console.
    
    The fix for this APAR is targeted for inclusion in fix pack
    8.5.5.25 and 9.0.5.19. For more information, see 'Recommended
