Error description
New Function: When the new '-M' option is added to the cob2 command, the compiler will produce a pgmname.u file from the compilation of pgmname.cbl. This pgmname.u file will contain a unique entry for every COPYBOOK file that is referenced in a COPY statement in the users' COBOL source file.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL V6.4 who are * * compiling programs with the cob2 command * * in z/OS UNIX and would like to generate a * * standard make dependency file, containing * * entries for the COPYBOOK files referenced * * in their COBOL source file which reside * * in a z/OS UNIX file system. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: New Function: When the new '-M' option * * is added to the cob2 command, the * * compiler * * will produce a pgmname.u file from the * * compilation of pgmname.cbl. This * * pgmname.u * * file will contain a unique entry for * * every * * z/OS Unix COPYBOOK file that is * * referenced * * in a COPY statement in the users' * * COBOL * * source file. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the IBM provided PTF and make use * * of the new 'cob2 -M' option, as * * appropriate. * **************************************************************** Most modern compilers support the '-M' compiler option which generates a make dependency file. This option has now been added to the Enterprise COBOL compiler. When a user issues 'cob2 pgmname.cbl -o pgmname -M', the compiler generates the pgmname.u file which is a make dependency file for the compilation.

Temporary fix
Comments
If you want to make use of the make dependency file for a partucular compile that was initiated by the cob2 command, simple add the new '-M' option to the cob2 command. Note: this is a cob2 compiler option and is only intended to be used in the z/OS UNIX environment.
