Error description

  • When an application is protected by SAML Web SSO and the
    identity for the user in the SAML Assertion that is received
    from the IdP should come from an attribute, if there is no
    Subject/NameID element in the Assertion, the login fails with a
    "com.ibm.websphere.security.WebTrustAssociationFailedException:
    No principal in Trust Association Result" error. You can find
    an FFDC similar to the following:

    [7/26/23 12:05:33:711 EDT]     FFDC Exception:com.ibm.websphere
    .security.WebTrustAssociationFailedExceptionSourceId:com.ibm.ws.
    eptor.invokeTAIbeforeSSOProbeId:649
    com.ibm.websphere.security.WebTrustAssociationFailedException:
    No principal in Trust Association Result
    	at com.ibm.ws.security.web.saml.ACSTrustAssociationInterceptor
    .createResult(ACSTrustAssociationInterceptor.java:1108)

    This issue only happens when the sso_(id).sp.idMap property is
    set to idAssertion (the default value).

    * RECOMMENDATION: Install a fix pack or interim fix that *
    *                  contains this APAR.                         *
    ****************************************************************
    No principal in Trust Association Result
    at com.ibm.ws.security.web.saml.ACSTrustAssociationInterceptor
    .createResult(ACSTrustAssociationInterceptor.java:1108)
    is emitted from the SAML Web SSO TAI under the following
    conditions:
    * The identity for the user is obtained from a SAML
    attribribute.
    * sso_(id).sp.idMap=idAssertion
    * There is no Subject/NameID element in the Assertion.

Problem conclusion

  • The SAML Web SSO TAI is updated to properly obtain the user
    name from a SAML attribute.

    The fix for this APAR is targeted for inclusion in fix packs
    8.5.5.25 and 9.0.5.19. For more information, see 'Recommended
