Error description

  • CICS 6.1 now tags uss files as part of the install process
(SMP/E). The initial install of CICS 6.1 is fine but any ptfs
applied subsequently that replaces ascii files will leave the
replaced ascii file(s) corrupt if AUTOCVT is enabled.

Problem summary

    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: ascii files delivered by SMP/E may be *
    *                      corrupted.                              *
    ****************************************************************
All ascii, EBCDIC and binary files in the zfs are tagged during
the SMP/E install process using chtag. If AUTOCVT is enabled,
when a write operation is called from BPXCOPY during the install
of a PTF, it checks for tags on the target file to see if
conversion is required. If an ascii tagged file is found an
EBCDIC to ascii conversion which is not required and hence
    corrupting the file.

Problem conclusion

  • Change the SMP/E install process to prevent conversion caused
    by AUTOCVT.
