Error description

  • APAR PH44330 removes the APF (+a) attribute from the IHS
    binaries. But install_ish on IHS 8.5 still checks for this and
    if it's not set, it calls set_attributes.sh. With PH44330, it
    will only try and set program control (+p) but the call will
    fail when the IHS product code is mounted read only and output a
    message like this:
    FOMF0303I /IHS85_product_code/bin/httpd: chattr() error: rv=-1,
    errno=8D, rsn=05E80079

    The install_ihs script still works, so this message be ignored

Problem summary

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When running bin/install_ihs, chattr() *
    * errors may be issued. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    bin/install_ihs is NOT responsible for setting extended
    attributes of product files, but it has some vestigal code to
    make sure the permissions are correct. This check was out of
    sync
    after PH44330.
    In normal usage, bin/install_ihs is run from a read-only
    mountpoint, so checking permissions to correct them is futile.

Problem conclusion

  • The script was updated to not check/set the extended attributes,
    matching the 9.0 behavior. Permissions are initially set by
    Installation Manager in this release (via the bin/preinst.sh
    script)

    The fix for this APAR is targeted for inclusion in IBM HTTP
