Error description

  • The customer's apache-webserver in front of Websphere crash
repeatedly with segmentation faults and writing core dumps.

In the apache error_logs they see a large number of logmessages
    like:

    [2023-03-09 17:24:25.488136] [hostname] [core:notice] [pid
    8330:tid 139634849019776] AH00051: child pid 30276 exit signal
Segmentation fault (11), possible coredump in
    /tools/apache_ppva/2.4.55
    [2023-03-09 17:24:33.494163] [hostname] [core:notice] [pid

Segmentation fault (11), possible coredump in
    /IHS2.4.55

The core dumps show, that the problem is related to odrlib:

Core was generated by `/IHS/bin/httpd -D
    FOREGROUND -k start'.
Program terminated with signal SIGABRT, Aborted.

    ****************************************************************
The web server will produce a segmentation fault when a
    specific
combination of events occurs. The combination of a null value
set for any Intelligent Management property for web servers on
    a
web server with underscores in the name of the cell, node or
    web
server. To see if the properties have been set to null please
    see this page https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/was-zos/9.0.5?
    topic=overview-configuring-intelligent-management-properties-
    web-servers
If both conditions are met the segmentation fault will occur.

Problem conclusion

  • The code was updated to properly process the presence of a null
    value

The fix for this APAR is targeted for inclusion in fix pack
9.0.5.16 and 8.5.5.24. For more information, see 'Recommended
