PH52954: ALLOCATION ERROR WITH GCMDS COMMAND IN DB2 ADMIN TOOL

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Allocation errors are occurring when trying to use the GCMDS
  command in Admin tool on panel ADBGCMDS. The issue stems from
  the code not taking into account the user's TSO Prefix other
  than their own user ID. Both users will have needed to use the
  command in Admin tool from the same ISPF session number as the
  DSN qualifier ADBCMDn is made up with n being the ISPF session.
  
  
  Additionally, there's another issue with GCMDS where if single
  quotes are used with a dataset and the Enter key is pressed, an
  error is received indicating an invalid dataset name.
  
  
  Example: IKJ56709I INVALID DATA SET NAME, ''TS5776.STUFF1'.

  When multiple users try to use the GCMDS command from the same
  ISPF session number, an error occurs with the following message:
  DATA SET TS4043.TEMP.ADBCMD1 ALREADY IN USE, TRY LATER+
  DATA SET IS ALLOCATED TO ANOTHER JOB OR USER
  IEFA110I DATA SET CONTENTION
  
  These errors can occur if the user's TSO prefix is
  set to something other than their user ID and that prefix is
  the same as another user of the GCMDS command. Because this
  prefix is appended to the default data set name, a data set
  allocation failure occurs.
  

Problem conclusion

• The problem has been resolved.
