PH52924: UNIX COMMAND API in RSEAPI HANGS WHILE LOCATING THE SYSTEM ENVIRONMENT VARIABLES WHEN BASH ENVIRONMENT IS IN USE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Unix Command API in RSEAPI fails to access the USS environment
  variables from IBM Explorer for z/OS host (v3.2.x) for RSE API
  (v1.1.x) and results in a hang if bash environment is in use.
  
  The issue can be recreated in uss when running the following
  command in bash environment where no result is displayed:
  env -i HOME=$HOME sh -L -c 'env'
  

Local fix

• In USS, run the user profile with /bin/sh instead of /bin/sh
  

Problem summary

• When running Unix Command API in RSEAPI, it fails to access the
  USS environment variables from the IBM Explorer for z/OS host
  for RSEAPI and results in a hang if bash is set in the profile.
  

Problem conclusion

• The command to retrieve the USS environment variables is updated
   in the IBM Explorer for z/OS host to ensure the USS environment
   variables can be retrieved when running Unix Command API in
  RSEAPI.
