Error description

  • You are using the CICS Explorer to view CICS regions or other
types of resources. You have a mixture of CICS releases in your
CICSPlex. Your WUI Server region is connected to a CMAS that is
not the highest level in the CICSplex, but some of the records
that are coming back in the scope of the query are from a higher
    release.

If you try to use the 'group by' feature within the Explorer,
you may receive error messages similar to the following (from
trying to group CICS region records as an example here)

CNX0220E A connection error has occurred: Query partially failed
    with error responses
     and
CNX0624E: Get Region from cicsgrp failed

The error does not occur if you use the WUI browser interface,
or if your WUI Server region is connected to a CMAS that is of
the highest CICS release in the CICSplex.

Local fix

  • The error does not occur if you use the WUI browser interface,
or if your WUI Server region is connected to a CMAS that is of
the highest CICS release in the CICSPlex.

    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICSPlex SM users *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: CMCI GraphQL request fails to decode *
    * record attributes relating to a CICS *
    * region running a newer release than *
    *                      the GraphQL server.                     *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: After applying the PTF which resolves this *
    * APAR, all WUI server regions should be *
    *                 restarted.                                   *
    * The restarts do not need to occur at the *
    * same time and can occur in any order. *
    ****************************************************************
CICSPlex SM provides CICS management client interface (CMCI)
in two forms; REST and GraphQL.
When using the GraphQL interface, the data being returned by
CPSM must be representable using a strict internal model.
When the data being returned contains CICS regions that are
running a newer release than the WUI region providing the
GraphQL server, for example a version 5 server returning data
representing a CICS region running at version 6, then the
data cannot be represented and an error is returned.

GraphQL will return an error such as
        "Exception while fetching data (
        /cicsplexes[0]/cicsResources/cicsrgn) :
        No enum constant com.ibm.cics.drake.model.CICSRelease.e740"

The CMCI GraphQL interface is used by the CICS Explorer when
using the Aggregation ("Group by") function.

In this case CICS Explorer will issue message:
CNX0220E A connection error has occurred:
Query partially failed with error responses

The EYUCMCIJ messages.log will will show errors and a stack
    similar to the following:

    java.lang.IllegalArgumentException:
      No enum constant com.ibm.cics.drake.model.CICSRelease.e740
        at java.lang.Enum.valueOf(Enum.java:249)
        at com.ibm.cics.drake.model.CICSRelease.valueOf
        at com.ibm.cics.drake.jcpsm.RecordDecoder.decode
        at com.ibm.cics.drake.jcpsm.CPSMAPIConnection.lambda
        at com.ibm.cics.drake.jcpsm.CPSMAPIConnection$$Lambda$610
        ...

Problem conclusion

  • The CMCI GraphQL server has been updated with the capability
to represent CICS regions newer than the server.
