PH52217: THE ERROR MESSAGE RECEIVED WHEN A SCHEDULED JUPYTER NOTEBOOK FAILS DUE TO AN UNHANDLED EXCEPTION IS UNCLEAR

Error description

  • From 11.1.7 FP5 onwards, we are require stricter error handling
    in notebook code. Customers who upgrade from earlier releases,
    may have scheduled notebooks start to fail if they were
    previously succeeding despite unhandled (generally non-fatal)
    exceptions.
    
    When a scheduled notebook fails due to an unhandled exception,
    the following error is returned:
    
    restBridgeService request has failed. Caused by:
    com.ibm.bi.rest.bridge.exception.RestBridgeRuntimeException:
    POST /bi/v1/jupyter/schedule returned unexpected HTTP status
    code: 400 at

    This error should be improved by returning the exception from
    the notebook.
    

Local fix

  • Ensure that all notebook code contains exception handling, for
    example try/except, if/then/else frameworks.
