Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL 6.4 who want to * * compile and run non-OO COBOL/Java * * interoperable applications using JCL instead * * of z/OS UNIX scripts and makefiles. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: New sample JCL for building and running * * non-OO COBOL/Java interoperable * * applications. * * * * The sample JCL demonstrates how to * * build/run the COBPROD demo application * * using JCL. In particular, it * * demonstrates how to use the BPXBATCH * * and BPXBATSL utilities from JCL to * * perform various operations that can * * normally only be done in z/OS UNIX, * * such as running the cjbuild utility. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the IBM-provided PTF. * **************************************************************** The non-OO COBOL/Java interoperability framework is a new feature in Enterprise COBOL 6.4. A demonstration of this feature was provided (the COBPROD application), with supporting build/run scripts and an alternative makefile. However many users want to know how one might approach building and running a typical non-OO COBOL/Java interoperable application using JCL exclusively. Such an example was not available until now.
Problem conclusion
New sample JCL demonstrating how a non-OO COBOL/Java interoperable application can be built and run entirely using JCL is provided. The sample JCL is available in the SIGYSAMP data set of the compiler (see member IGYCJDMJ) and is also available in the zFS install directory as file demo/cobol_java_interop_sample/cobprod.jcl For more information, please refer to the following sections in the Enterprise COBOL for z/OS 6.4 IBM Documentation online: Enterprise COBOL for z/OS 6.4 -> Programming Guide -> Compiling and debugging your program -> Compiling, linking, and running non-OO COBOL applications that interoperate with Java -> Sample JCL for building and running the COBPROD application
