Error description

  • After application of the PTFs for APAR PH37147, when a CMAS
    looses contact with a remote CMAS in the CICSPlex, the
    remote MAS regions are marked as lostcon. This results in
    workloads they are target regions for to be frozen.

    However if one of the remaining CMAS regions have a CPSM
    cold start, and following CPSM warm starts, the active CMAS
    region will incorrectly mark the MAS regions as gone, resulting
    in message EYUWM0425I :
       EYUWM0425I <applid> Target region (MAS0001) for CICSplex
         (CPLX0001) has been terminated in workload
       EYUWM0425I <applid> (WLM0001).

    If this was the only target region in a lost state in the
    workload, this results in the workload incorrectly being
    defrosted with message :
       EYUWM0413I <applid> Workload (WLM0001) from context
         (CPLX0001) has been reactivated from Frozen.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A CMAS incorrectly reports message *
    *                      EYUWM0425I, that a target MAS region    *
    * has been terminated in a workload after *
    * a restart. This results in the workload *
    * being incorrectly defrosted on that *
    *                      CMAS with message EYUWM0413I.           *

    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the PTFs for this APAR to all CMAS *
    * regions and restart. This can be done in any *
    *                 order.                                       *
    ****************************************************************
    When a CMAS with connected MAS regions stops, the other CMAS
    regions set these remote MAS regions as LOSTCON in their
    topology and WLM data spaces, and freeze workloads in which
    these MASs participate.

    A CPSM cold start of one of the active CMAS regions
    participating in the workload results in the workload being
    imported from other active CMAS regions when a MAS in the
    workload connects after the cold start. This causes
    topology information for the remote LOSTCON MAS regions to be
    acquired. However, after this CMAS subsequently performs a CPSM
    warm start, some of the imported data can be lost. This occurs
    due to incorrect logic added by PH37147. Topology changes
    the status of the MAS to gone. This results in the WLM
    component being informed, terminating the MAS from the workload
    and defrosting it, while the MAS is still actively running, This
    is shown with message :
       EYUWM0425I <applid> Target region (<mas>) for CICSplex
         (<cicsplex>) has been terminated in workload
       EYUWM0425I <applid> (<workload>).
    followed by
       EYUWM0413I <applid> Workload (<workload>) from context
         (<cicsplex>) has been reactivated from Frozen.

Problem conclusion

  • The topology warm start logic modified by APAR PH37147 has been
    corrected, to properly determine if MAS region is LOSTCON
    or GONE in this case, to ensure topology and associated WLM
    workloads are in the correct state, and workloads are not
    incorrectly defrosted when remote MAS regions may still be
    operating.
